LACMA
(L.A. County Museum of Art)
Tim Burton exhibit (Oct. 2011)

The signature and unique work of  Tim Burton was on display at Lacma all of October. The visitor got a sneak preview into the wonderous imagination of the one and only Tim Burton, through the various displays of art work, sketches, costumes, character props, and much more. It was as if we were on the set of some his films. Art, props, and costumes ranged from Nightmare before Christmas, to Corpse Bride, from Sleepy Hallow to Edward Scizzorhands, Alice in Wonderland, and others. Admist the art and props, one could see the apparent insight into the various characters that Tim Burton portrays. Often the misunderstood, or strange, such as Edward in Edward Sizzorhands, Jack Skellington in Nightmare Before Christmas, who discovers Christmas in a land of Halloween,  or the rebellious Alice in Alice in Wonderland.  The message comes through strong in the character's revelations, as they defy the odds, and come out the hero or heroin, as is the case in "Alice."

*Jazzfest  in New Orleans, another amazing music event where people from all over the country flock to! This year's headliners included Eddy Vedder, Bruce Springstreen, Al Green, Foo FIghters, and many, many more!

"Staccato" is a musical theory term that means the opposite of "legato," which means smooth and connected.
Staccato is a choppy, short and disconnected style of playing or singing. Other examples are the sound of rain drops, tap dancing, or Tchaikovsky's "In the hall of mountain king." Staccato is the "pop" in the children's song "Pop goes the weazel."  Often it is this "pop," that is an "aha" moment, a creative breakthrough, inspiration, a moment of bliss, or what ties the song, or story together. That pop, that choppy, and disconnected moment is often what is in fact the most connected, and what makes the most sense. So here it is-the things that pop.

Based out of "Oz," aka Los Angeles music industry, we are here to bring you our finest picks in music  related special events, instrument spotlights, and more!
